person a is moving to a new town and falls in with persons b, c, d etc. It's set in the future, where everyone wears glasses to be able to see the digital pseudo-reality layered over everything. But there are urban legends of being able to forge a connection to close to the glasses, the danger of being trapped in the digital world. Person b's friend died last year, ruled a accident caused by a lapse of judgement on their part, excessive use of digital reality, and the group of friends wants to get to the bottom of the case.
bonus: kid au would be fun but anything else is great too

person a gets into a prep school for magic but this doesn't hide the fact that he's running away from his own problems. and when, together with his friends (boys and girls whatever you like), they discover a way to enter a whole new realm of worlds, person a's problems only magnify.

I am the hurricane setting fire to the forests
at night when no one else is alive
or awake
